WILLEMSTAD.- In a statement related to the situation of Measles in Curaçao, the Ministry of Health, Environment and Nature asked all elders to ensure that their children are vaccinated according to the vaccination scheme of the Department of Youth Health. In order to confirm if your child (ren) has already passed or passed through said vaccination, the vaccination card must be consulted. Children younger than 19 years, who passed all their respective vaccines, are not at risk.

If you do not know your vaccination status and do not know if you ever got measles and are also between the ages of 19 to 50, you can get your vaccination at the GGD Adult Vaccination Office in Zaquito. You can call the Nurse to get an explanation or make an appointment at telephone number 432-2860. If you do not get an answer, you can leave your last name and phone number on the answering machine and they will make contact with the interested parties.

The symptoms of measles are: high fever that starts suddenly, cough, runny nose (rhinitis), red watering eyes (conjunctivitis). Three to five days later the person will begin to feel badly experiencing skin irritation (allergy and dermatitis) that begins to appear from the edge of the scalp, then continues on the face, then body and finally hands and feet.
