WILLEMSTAD.- Yesterday in the early morning, on a day with many tourists in the center of our city, the authorities of Bike Team (Police) and also Politur made a check on all the taxis and different buses that transport tourists.
In recent days there were many taxi drivers’ complaints about illegal taxi’s transporting tourists, which is being done by people who are not registered as taxi drivers formally or as a company to transport.
Related to this control that took place yesterday, the taxi drivers were not very happy. EXTRA learned from Sinusta’s spokesperson that the control was not done correctly. The taxi drivers indicated that they were not against the controls themselves, they really want the controls so that everything goes in order, but they considered that the control was not carried out to their complete satisfaction.
What happened yesterday is that the authorities waited until the taxi drivers got customers, and in front of them held these control with tourists on board. Several drivers had their documents not in order. And in these cases, the taxi drivers indicated that this was not their fault.
All documents are being held at the Ministry of Traffic, Transportation and Urban Planning. There are taxi drivers waiting for almost more than a year and a half for their permits. Without their permits, they cannot buy their numbers.
The document of good conduct is also an essential role, but taxi drivers are surely waiting for more than two years to obtain this document.
Taxi drivers want to know when they will finish attending everything related to their functions, among others, their permits and good conduct documents, so that they can work in a quiet environment.
It should also be added that at the time when taxi drivers were controlled, there was a party in the city with clandestine taxi drivers.
