WILLEMSTAD.- His Majesty, King Willem Alexander and his wife Queen Maxima visited Curaçao on the 1st and 2nd of July. The visit was a resounding success in which the Royal Couple made several visits while on our island in less than 30 hours.

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima arrived at the Hato airport on Sunday. They then visited Governor Lucille George-Wout and had a conversation with Minister President Eugene Rhuggenaath. They were also presented with the members of the Council of Ministers of Curaçao. Later, the royal couple visited the Megapir 2 in Otrobanda and the Curaçao harbor.

Yesterday the Royal Couple met with members of parliament. They attended the official celebration of Flag Day in Brionplein. Then the Royal Couple visited Bandabou where they attended the Flag Day ceremony. They also visited the Village Festival in Otrobanda, in particular the Molenplein festivities. At noon they visited “Excel Arts Academy”. The Organization is the winner of the “Appeltje van Orange” of Oranjefonds offering children and young people the opportunity to develop through dance lessons. In its 17 years of existence this foundation has helped more than 2000 young people and children.

At the end of the visit they had a conversation with the participants of “Kansen voor Jongeren Cariben from Oranjefonds.” And finally the Royal Couple returned to Holland.

The Secretary of State for Home Affairs and Kingdom Relations, mr. Raymonds Knops was also present at the events. Today he will visit Curaçao and tomorrow he will do the same in Bonaire.
