Willemstad – “Inselair will start flying again between Curaçao and Venezuela in a short time.” This is what Finance Minister Kenneth Gijsbertha stated last night to EXTRA. Gijsbertha and his delegation from Inselair went to Caracas to discuss the opening of the routes again. According to Gijsbertha, this was a wish of the Inselair Company but also of Venezuela. … “Venezuela wanted to normalize the contact with Inselair and Curaçao”. According to the minister, the intention is for Inselair to fly between Curaçao and three different destinations in Venezuela starting next month: Caracas/Maiquetia, Valencia and Punto Fijo. Tickets can be purchased online and passengers will have to pay them in dollars, Minister Gijsbertha explained.

As is known, Venezuela has a very high debt with Inselair of almost 70 million dollars. This is because the organization previously known in Venezuela as Cadivi responsible for collecting the money of passengers who bought tickets in Inselair in bolivars, has not been able to meet their commitments to different aviation companies because of the difficult situation in the Bolivarian country. But with the new system, Inselair will receive the money from the online payments immediately on their account

The point concerning the debt was not made during Gijsbertha’s visit. The minister explained that in Caracas he conversed with representatives of the INAC organization, the Venezuelan civil aviation institute. This organization has no authority to speak on the debt issue. According to minister Gijsbertha, the issue of debt will be deliberated in the future with the Cencoex organization, which is now the organization in charge of replacing Cadivi. The deliberation will take place together with the Minister of Economic Development.

Gijsbertha explained that during this week it is expected that all the papers in connection with Inselair will be signed. The minister affirmed that Inselair plans to start flying in the month of July. In conclusion the most important thing referred by Gijsbertha on this subject is: “that Inselair began to fly to Venezuela again.”
