WILLEMSTAD.- According to the Financial Supervisory Committee (Cft) the first supplementary budget for the year 2019 that Minister Kenneth Gijsbertha submitted on April 1st , does not comply with CFT norms. According to the Committee, the first supplementary budget will result in a deficit of 112 million guilders in 2019 and more millions in subsequent years to come. To top it all, Cft says that the measures that Gijsbertha presented doesn’t match the measures he announced in his letter to Cft on March 13th.

Cft explained extensively, the reasons why they can’t agree with the measures presented. According to them, the first supplementary budget in no way adequately answers solutions to some of the financial problems that Curaçao currently faces. The chairman of Cft Raymond Gradus wrote that Gijsbertha does not show understanding about the urgency of a change in the financial situation of Curaçao. He explains that Cft, recognizes the difficult economic situation of Curaçao. But according to Cft, the Minister of Finance must present more measures.

As is well known, Cft advised the Council of Ministers of the Kingdom last April 1st to impose an instruction to Curaçao, so that the Government manages to balance the expenses and revenues for more years in the budget. According to Cft the revenues and expenses of the country Curaçao, are not in balance and financial management is not in order. So far, the Council of Ministers of the Kingdom has not made any decision regarding the Council of Cft. Prime Minister Eugene Rhuggenaath on April 1st, sent a letter to Prime Minister Mark Rutte requesting to grant Curaçao more financial space.
