WILLEMSTAD.- The Minister of Economic Development sr. Steven Martina, together with the Ministry of Economic Development (MEO) and partners such as Curaçao Tourism Board (CTB), Curaçao Hospitality & Tourism Association (CHATA) and Curaçao Ports Authority (CPA), shared the developments of the tourism sector during 2018 and also the forecasts regarding this year, during a meeting with the press.

Minister Martina yesterday expressed his satisfaction with the developments of tourism and announced that this is the sector that, with hard work, puts tourism in growth. During 2018, tourism was one of the pillars that, despite all the challenges, was able to contribute even more to our local economy. It was a year full of challenges, but the hard work and the continuous effort of all those who worked in this sector, gave results. From the point of view of the expertise and experience of each of the partners present, there were notes of growth and positivism.

It is already a custom that periodically MEO, CTB, CHATA and CPA present figures in different areas of the sector, in the same line and jointly gives a perspective on the tourism of Curaçao. The growth that we can see in all the different areas of the sector was also visible on the macro-economic impact that tourism experienced during 2018. Both the direct impact and the indirect impact grew substantially this past year. Thus, tourism is projected to contribute positively to the Gross Domestic Product of Curaçao during 2018.

Tourism is developing in a good direction and in that same perspective, the other partners. MEO is also planned in such a way that during 2019 tourism will continue to grow due to the continuation of the joint efforts that are already taking place. Finally, Minister Martina said that tourism is developing in a good direction.
