WILLEMSTAD.- Joran Van der Sloot is still news. This time, because he has requested to serve the rest of his prison sentence in the Netherlands. If this request is accepted by the Peruvian authorities, this would mean that Van der Sloot would have to first pass through the prison in Aruba and then continue in the Netherlands. Joran based his request on the Treaty that the Netherlands maintains with Peru on this criminal matter, and that allows a detainee to request the power to fulfill the rest of his punishment in his country of origin.

Recently, Joran was imprisoned in Challapalca prison. Now he is staying in another prison in Juliaca. He is locked in a cell with 14 people, cell that he has to house only or with a maximum of 6 people. Therefore, he wants to be transferred to Holland. If he goes to Holland, his punishment will be “transformed” into a punishment equivalent to Holland and this would mean that his punishment would be 18 years. If you count all that has served as punishment until now, Joran in four years could go free in Holland.

Along with this, if the request is honored, he would have to go to serve sentence before in Aruba and from here make the request for his transfer to the Netherlands. Joran Van der Sloot is serving a sentence of 28 years in prison in Peru, for the murder of the young Stephany Flores on May 30th 2010.

In the month of July 2013, the Court of Appeals confirmed this punishment for Van der Sloot. Besides the punishment of prison, Van der Sloot has to pay 55 thousand euros of compensation to the family of the deceased Flores.
