WILLEMSTAD – Werner Wiels apologizes to the local Jewish community after issuing certain particular expressions pronounced during this week’s press conference.

In a meeting with the press, Mr. Wiels, former director of MDPT, did not save anyone with his criticism. Even the press was the target without specifying them.

At certain moment during his presentation, he attacked the system and commented on how he and his family were treated by the local Justice. He insinuated that perhaps nothing is done against others because they are Jews.

Yesterday in an official letter, Mr. Wiels apologized for his expressions that at some point offended any person of the Jewish religion.

In his letter, he said that on March 16, 2018, his home was searched for documents that were already in the hands of Refineria Isla and the government. This raid became a tremendous and heavy trauma both for him and for his wife who was even sick. His wife became very sick due to this uncomfortable event.

During the Press Conference on June 4, he expressed himself about a group of our community and mentioned the Jews unnecessarily, because of this he recognizes that it was not the right thing to do.

But through this letter / statement Mr. Wiels wanted to apologize to the group that was offended by his statements.

Mr. Wiels recognizes that this unfortunate moment was a consequence of his emotions that were exalted during the press conference. “However, this situation does not diminish importance of each and every point that I highlighted during the last press conference.”

Finally Wiels wrote that once again he wanted to emphasize that the Curaçao Refinery and the Government have all the information. “Even so, they chose the path of abuse against me and raided my house with the consequences already mentioned.”
