WILLEMSTAD.- Bert Isenia, director of Tropical Park does not understand why they have to wait so long to get an answer regarding their requests. Isenia explained that on June 21, 2016, a Master Plan for the Tropical Park was submitted to the Government. On February 22, 2017, the members of the Board delivered the petition to Domeinbeheer to begin construction. Yesterday in the morning Isenia heard from Domeinbeheer that the request was nowhere to be found. “I complained vehemently and after 3 hours they called me back, to let me know the found the request anyway”.

But it seems that still, an official registration number was not assigned to the request. Isenia: “We have delivered different requests: in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2015. And we have not received any reply”. But at the same time Isenia explains: “In the neighborhood of Tropical Park they allowed individuals to build houses on land destined for areas for nature”. According to Isenia, there are other circumstances taking place that are strange; “There are illegal ‘kunuku’ built on the grounds of Tropical Park. Who granted these permits?” Isenia explained that this Thursday they have an appointment with Domeinbeheer and will verify what the status is of the situation of the Tropical Park.

As it is known, for more than two years, the Tropical Park changed its name to Curaçao Zoo. At the same time the new Master Plan for Curaçao Zoo was presented, which should guarantee the future of the Tropical Park. The starting point of the plan is that both the Government and the community cooperate with the Master Plan for it to be a successful project. According to Isenia, for a long time the Government did not support the Park, which in its opinion can play an important role for the people of Curaçao.
