WILLEMSTAD.- The Rhuggenaath Cabinet is doing everything possible to increase the activities in the economy and create job quotas in which you can expect enough activity within the tourism sector. Thus the Minister of Economy in charge, Mr. Kenneth Gijsbertha announced in a statement to the press this past weekend. Curaçao has an economy that has been stagnant for more than a decade, so this is the reason for different factors.

There are factors on which you can influence and others on which you can’t exert any influence as among others, the situation in Venezuela that is causing a huge impact here in Curaçao. Well, there are factors that are out of control, according to Gijsbertha and not only the Venezuelan situation but also the uncertainty that is causing the Isla Refinery.

The minister reported that the Government is working on a comprehensive plan that encompasses different projects mainly in the tourism sector. Curaçao has already known some negative growths, but in its totality it is precisely tourism, the sector that has taken the face towards positive growth.

According to Gijsbertha, efforts must be maintained so that, at least, the continuity of Isla is guaranteed after 2019. Moreover, there is the intention of making substantial investments in the public apparatus, in order to continue with the government.

Another aspect also lies in financial management. It must be ensured that the management of the Government remains in order. But within that framework, actions that are taking place are already being applied. Within the remaining period, this Government should do everything possible to create more employment opportunities for our people. Finally that is the goal of the Government.

It will continue with the attention of the aspects within the neighborhoods, referred to the infrastructure. Along with this, there will be more attention for teaching for schools. Another aspect will be focused on the involvement of poverty in the neighborhoods. According to the minister, they already have 4 pilot neighborhoods to address poverty, but it is something that should continue to be done for all of Curaçao.
