WILLEMSTAD.- The Parliament of Curaçao yesterday approved a motion that was related to the help to solve the urgent problems of Sint Elisabeth Hospital (SEHOS). With this motion the Parliament urges the Minister of Health, Environment and Nature to complete the necessary sum of money so that the hospital has enough material, equipment and personnel to offer health care of good quality.

The motion was signed by the members of Parliament of the political parties Pueblo Soberano, Movementu Progresivo, PIN, PAR, MAN and says the following: “In the last few months the St. Elizabeth Hospital was confronted with a shortage of materials, appliances and personnel. Patients were sent home waiting for another appointment for an operation. The delay in care can have fatal consequences for patients. The Government has the task of procuring accessible, quality and affordable care for the people of Curaçao.

It is decided that the minister should do everything possible to guarantee the quality of medical care. The minister is urged to handle with the Social Insurance Organization (SVB) and complete the necessary sum, audited by Government experts, to guarantee the continuity of the care that will be transferred on the New Hospital in Otrobanda (HNO). And if necessary, with money from different funds managed by SVB (Schommelfonds). Marilyn Moses from the Progressive Movement party explained: “The reason we are asking for the meeting is because people’s lives are in danger, not to mention that people have already died.” We say that the continuity of medical care is the responsibility of the Government. But it is the responsibility of each and every one, also of the members of Parliament of Curaçao, which means that if there are people who are not receiving the care, we have to procure it, we think that the figures cannot go beyond the life of the people. of people goes first, we will have time to see the figures later.

The motion was approved with 11 pro-votes (from parliamentarians of PAR, MAN, Pueblo Soberano and Movementu Progresivo) in favor and 3 against (MFK).
