WILLEMSTAD.- In a short note, which former parliamentarian Melvin Cijntje sent to the Pueblo Soberano party (Sovereign People’s party), he announced that he is retiring as a member of the organization. The reason why Cijntje took his resignation is based on recent events, such as, for example the way in which the current political leader was chosen without a call for a general meeting. In addition, Cijntje mentioned the events that will come in the future regarding the investigation related to the construction of the New Hospital.

One of the points that bothered Cijntje was the hasty election of the new political leader for the Pueblo Soberano party. In Cijntje’s opinion, there is no reason for this urgency to choose the new political leader in that way.

On November 4th they had to have a general meeting in which they would choose the new leader and in this case there was every likelihood that Bernhard “Ben” Whiteman would be chosen, because he was the only one who had run for the nomination for the Pueblo Soberano political leader. Cijntje questions why the party didn’t wait for the normal election of November 4th. Why the anxiety to choose Whiteman.

Looking at these events Cijntje alleges that he’s no longer in the Pueblo Soberano’s organization and made his decision. Cijntje explained that his resignation from the Pueblo Soberano does not mean his retirement from politics. Since he was no longer a parliamentarian, he held talks with other political parties in general not to directly join one in particular.

He is considering his relationship with other parties positively and if there is a party that requires and wishes to make use of his knowledge and if he is invited to speak, he will participate in these conversations with the party in question and will not exclude the possibility of being part of some other political party, added Cijntje.
