WILLEMSTAD.- ‘Amigu di Tera’ i ‘Defensa Ambiental’ will appeal to Wechi’s sentence, which was issued against these organizations last Wednesday. This was announced by their spokesperson, Mr. Lloyd Narain to EXTRA.

In Wechi’s sentence, the judge granted the Environmental Defense organizations 6 weeks of procedural time to appeal to the LAR case that they initiated to prevent the construction of houses in Wechi. Mr. Narain said they will go to the Court of Appeals and will appeal this ruling, but before they will meet with their lawyer to discuss the case and decide on legal strategies.

However, he thinks that the judge who dictated this sentence did not take into account all the information in the case. This is something much bigger than the license or permit that was given to build the houses in Wechi. “Wechi’s problem is more relevant and affects all housing developments, it is a chaos now and the government is looking for ways to hide it and has already invested a lot of money in area destined for water. Now want to use this area to build houses.”

There is a need for houses and the people believe that the government and FKP will help them. The existing neighborhoods are not being helped and instead of helping the neighborhoods, the government is investing money in Wechi. The emergency plan to combat poverty is not being directed to problematic neighborhoods and therefore we cannot see any results. The government said it would fight poverty, but this does not really fit the reality. All this according to Narain.

The environmental organizations are against the permission that the Government granted FKP in 2016 to build houses in Wechi. A permit that grants the right to build 62 homes. The objection regarding the environmental movements is based on their criteria that the location of Wechi is not appropriate for the construction of houses because it is a natural conservation area and said construction of houses does not fit with the plans of Wechi. Although the permit was given for the construction of 62 houses, the environmental movements are of the opinion that this is a first phase and that the realization of 100 more houses is planned. This situation will be aggravate the problem of traffic in the Wechi area.

But as the Judge has confirmed, the construction permit granted since February 2016 is legal.
