WILLEMSTAD – This weekend the coalition parties will have a retreat. Not one spiritual, but one to put ‘attention and focus’ again on the goals of the current government and better ways of cooperation and communication with each other.

The relationship between the partners of the PAR, MAN and PIN coalition is not always the best. The opposition parties continually try to make use of this situation in order to generate division among the parties of the coalition.

The expectations of the Rhuggenaath cabinet were high for the moment in which the Government was formed in 2017. But contrary to expectations, the Cabinet until now must deal with the financial problems that the country faces in the different areas and also with respect to the negative economic development.

There was never a good explanation of the actual financial situation that the current Cabinet found, after taking office after the Interim Cabinet Pisas. A situation in which they do not have the financial means to carry their own management. Consequently to this day, the opposition managed to put a stamp on the Rhuggenaath Cabinet about them being mismanagement.

The reality is that after the new government took office in 2017, expenses had to be cut to try to fix the situation in the country. These exercises, however, have not yielded the desired results.

The budget deficit continues to grow and consequently the Council of the Financial Supervisory went to the Council of Ministers of the Kingdom, to give to the Government of Curaçao an instruction on the measures that should be taken to clean up the financial situation of the country.
