WILLEMSTAD.- Curaçao’s public finances situation is worse than what was presented by the Government of Curaçao so far. This could be the conclusion of a letter that the Financial Supervision College (Cft) sent on March 5 to Finance Minister Kenneth Gijsbertha. This letter is regarding the fourth report (UR). According to Cft, Curaçao has a deficit of 52.7 million guilders. On December 20, 2018, Minister Gijsbertha informed Cft that the deficit for 2018 will not be more than 39.1 million guilders.

According to Cft along with this, an extra deficit of 13.6 million guilders were presented. The reason for the deficit, according to Cft the total tax that was collected is less that was budgeted. So far the total deficit of 2017 and 2018 together, amounts to 169.5 million guilders.

As it is known, on February 19 Cft gave Minister Gijsbertha until yesterday to present a solution for a sum of at least 127 million guilders to close the budget deficit of 2019. Gradus explained two weeks ago that same that happened in the cases of 2017 and 2018, this year also a budget deficit is foreseen, on the basis of which the rules of the Law of the Kingdom of Financial Supervision are not complied with.
