WILLEMSTAD.- Prime Minister Mr. Eugene Rhuggenaath denied allegations that Curacao could be used for other goals other than as a humanitarian hub for Venezuela. Yesterday Parliament debated with the Prime Minister on the issue that Curacao was made available, by the Rhuggenaath cabinet as a humanitarian hub or that our country is available to the US to bring other equipment and or materials that is not necessarily humanitarian hub.

The Prime Minister said that the topic is suggestive and that it creates an unrealistic impression. There’s almost no humanitarian aid that can enter Venezuela. Several governments, including the neighboring countries, are trying to convince the Maduro regime to make it possible for humanitarian aid to enter the country. UNICEF and the Red Cross managed to get some aid into Venezuela but that was very limited.

Aid cannot enter the country at large quantities, the way it’s needed in that country. Our country is still being used as a hub, but the merchandise cannot enter Venezuela on a larger scale. Besides, Curacao will not authorize any humanitarian aid for Venezuela if there isn’t a safe place to deliver the products to the people of Venezuela.

The medical kits that were received are still here. It’s the intention to place them in Venezuela so that they cannot be used whenever the time comes. There are also deliberations with USAR in order to check how the aid that arrived in Curacao can still get into Venezuela using Red Cross and UNICEF.

We will stand to give a helping hand to our neighbors. This is based on our principles, human rights but with a heart ready to give a helping hand, says Prime Minister Mr.Eugene Rhuggenaath.
