WILLEMSTAD.- There is no reason for any union to be upset with the management of the General Comptroller’s staff, and even less if the rules are being applied. The Office of the Comptroller General doubts that the unions are against carrying out an operation contrary to the rules, something that the Court of Audit lacked for some time.

That’s what our informants revealed yesterday, as a reaction to the presentation made by a trade union center in which its members declared to be very upset with the management of the General Comptroller’s staff. The informants explained to EXTRA that the investigations showed that the Comptroller General has things to fix in the personnel area. They began to put structures and reinforce certain rules. Among others, they had many years without subjecting each staff member to an evaluation of their work. In the previous situation the majority of its staff members (24) achieved an automatic increase, which resulted in their salaries rising astronomically.

The Trade Union Confederation and trade union leaders must realize and understand that the Comptroller’s Office is not any entity, it is a respected, independent organization that has to carry out its work with trained people. But from the evaluation it turned out that they have “professionals” without sufficient training, nor to prepare a report, let alone investigate. There are others that were evaluated and categorized at a level below their own diplomas. Moreover, a general evaluation that was carried out, placed the Comptroller General between the entities that pay more wages above 10,000 thousand guilders per month. However, some agreements were reached in which it is necessary to procure the re-training part. Now, all agreements must be made through the association of the personnel raised and organized by the General Comptroller.

At that moment, a fracture with and in the association arose, at the moment when a member of the group resigned. The other members of the board also left afterwards, thinking that the union could enter. But they were shown that none can abandon an association in this way without previously selecting the substitutes of those who retire. According to the informants, there is no problem with the union wanting to enter the Comptroller General, but all this must go according to a process that fits or goes according to certain rules, such as the establishment of a referendum to know if you can count on the majority.

Finally, according to the informants, they regret that it is constantly a matter of discrediting this entity, referring in particular to information disseminated in the press about two officials who will resign for personal reasons. Certainly, in his official letter we talk about personal reasons, but EXTRA chooses not to reveal details because, just as they agreed with us, we have also promised our informants to keep certain information under absolute professional secrecy.
