WILLEMSTAD – The union that represents telecommunication workers, Sitkom has still not received a response from the Ministry of Social Development and Labor about its request related to the names sent to its office for the mandatory dismissals at UTS. The dismissals must go into effect July 30th 2018.

However, the Ministry has not approved any dismissal. This according to reliable sources of Extra involved with the negotiations.

The situation that arose in the Ministry of Social Development and Labor undoubtedly has to do with the fact that the parties involved have not received a response. As is known, the workers had to relocate due to the situation in the main building in Punda has become unbearable. Workers of the ministry do not want to work in the situation anymore.

Both UTS and workers have the option to go to Court in order to obtain permits of dismissals or to fight their firing. As is well known, the UTS dismissals process has been going on since last year. First there were 280 people who would lose their jobs. More than 100 employees chose to take their voluntary retirement and look for work elsewhere.

For the workers who obtained a letter of dismissal received the opportunity to able to apply for other functions in the company that opened up as a result of the restructuring of UTS. There is also the possibility to apply at two Daughter Company of UTS such as FiberCo and Blue Net. With this possibilities more dismissals can be avoided.
