WILLEMSTAD.- Julius Koko submitted yesterday, of the petition to the Parliament of Curaçao to place a statue of Tula in Punda. As explained in his petition, next year 2020 will be 225 years of the struggle started by Tula and his companions. In 2009, the Government of Curaçao decreed Tula as a national hero. In 2018, Minister Marylin Alcalá-Wallé reaffirmed it. It turns out that Tula does not have a statue on Curaçao. For different reasons, he has taken the initiative to propose the placement of a statue of Tula in Punda, exactly on the Hendrik Square.

The Engineer mr. Liio Capriles was requested to draw up a sketch and it must be said that the acceptance was immense. In that framework of ideas, there are many advances made regarding this initiative. Said project was delivered to the Parliament, in the form of an official request yesterday and at the same time it was requested, to declare July 1st as a national free day, within the framework of the historical events that occurred on July 1st, 1863. This Monday at 1:00 p.m the same petition will be delivered to the Prime Minister of Curaçao, Eugene Rhuggenaath.
