WILLEMSTAD.- The neighborhood of Sapaté, has a multifunctional center on the way, and the neighborhood can be proud when it is fully ready and functional. This also because the same neighborhood requested it and the Government listened to their requests. Yesterday afternoon, the company ASC Group in cooperation with the Government of Curaçao met on the occasion of reaching the highest point of this project that has a cost of 223,000 euros. This project has been financed with funds from the European Union.
It is a Multifunctional Center that will be of the used by the Neighborhood and especially for young people, but also for those adults and even for those who have certain physical disadvantages. By the way, the building will be built in such a way that it will take into account one person’s limitations, while being strategically located in the middle of the neighborhood.
For this occasion both the Minister-President Eugene Rhiggenaath and the Minister of Traffic, Transport and Urban Planning, Zita Jesús-Leíto, spoke to the invitees. Mrs. Jesús-Leíto pointed out that the Center is an added value and will give life and enhance the neighborhood. Sapaté is a relatively new neighborhood and there was a vision for the moment in which this neighborhood was developed. It was decided that houses of different categories would be built. And with this project of the Neighborhood Center it can be considered that it is reaching in its turn, at its most culminating point.
In a neighborhood it is important to have a place where people can meet, since together they work for the neighborhood. This is a project that was financed by the European Union funds and the sum of the Government’s contribution for its successful completion.
Mr. Rhuggenaath for his part stressed that this project is the product of an agreement added to the very desire of the neighborhood community. After talking with the residents of the neighborhood, it turned out that this was one of his greatest needs. They wanted a place to get together to enjoy recreation, where young people can make use of it. There are certain sports facilities, but there was a need for a place where people could meet in a social environment, and now it can be seen that this desire is close to being realized. There is still a lot to do in construction. But in any case, a project of this magnitude could only be realized at the moment we heard what the wishes of a community are.
