The University of Curacao Dr. Moises da Costa Gomez (UoC) announced today that the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) has acknowledged that the Bachelor Human Resource Management (BHRM) offered by the Faculty of Social Sciences and Economics fully aligns with SHRM’s HR Curriculum Guidebook and Templates. This while not long ago the program was also positively evaluated by the Dutch Flemish Accreditation Organization (NVAO), as complying with all their standards and guidelines.

Throughout the world, 483 programs in 368 educational institutions have been acknowledged by SHRM as being in alignment with its suggested guides and templates. The HR Curriculum Guidebook and Templates were developed by SHRM to define the minimum HR content areas that should be studied by HR students at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The guidelines — created in 2006 and revalidated in 2010, 2013, and 2017– are part of SHRM’s Academic Initiative to define HR education standards taught in university business schools and help universities develop degree programs that follow these standards.

Now that the BHRM curriculum is in alignment with the SHRM guides and templates, students enrolled in the BHRM degree program at the UoC will be able to apply for the SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) exam. Eligible students must be in their final year of the BHRM program and must have a minimum of 500 hours of relevant experience to apply for the SHRM-CP certification exam.

Students who earn their SHRM-CP will immediately be able to display their credential. The SHRM-CP will also open the way for our students and alumni who already have the SHRM-CP to acquire the SHRM-SCP (SRHM Senior Certified Professional).

The coming academic year the UoC is planning to provide a non-regular BHRM program, adhering to the same credentials as the regular program, if there is sufficient interest. The only difference being that employed professionals will now be given the opportunity to acquire their bachelor degree in Human Resource Management at the UoC in a part time trajectory.

The UoC, and especially the Faculty of Social Sciences and Economics, is proud of both achievements of the BHRM program: positive evaluation by the NVAO and alignment with the international organization SHRM.
